If you’re a woman working in video production, here are the five things you need to know with one bonus affirmation to remind you that you’re doing what you love.

There’s only one of you– Okay okay, times have changed… maybe you’re one of two…three maybe? Just pray you never need a tampon.

Someone always offers to carry something for you– This is a very nice gesture and I’m always appreciative, but it always makes me giggle when a male co-worker takes something heavy from me and then is surprised by how heavy it is. Do you even lift bro? I do!

You are cold- Most women I speak to that work in offices complain about this one, but being part of a production team I find myself in positions where everyone around me is sweating from the heat of either the lights or the temperature of the room. I am usually still in a sweater of some kind. If you’re in the edit mines like our in-house colorist Jenn, you’ll need to call in heat reinforcements.

You dream of wearing bright flowy fabrics- I’m not a very fashion obsessed woman, but there are still days when I wake up and just want to put on some cute heels and a flowy dress… then I remember that in production anything can happen and I quickly change my mind and my shoes.

And speaking of fashion choices:

You need to think about your hairstyles: When you decide on a hairstyle you need to think about what you will be doing that day. Are you operating heavy machinery? Probably safest to keep it up. Do you wear a headset all day? That bun on your head will likely make wearing headphones difficult.

Bonus:

You feel lucky everyday: Despite any difficulties that come up you wouldn’t trade the amazing experiences for the world. No matter your specialty being part of a creative team that gets to create killer content day in and day out is nothing short of the dream.
