Project Write-Up

National Vision | Monster Jam

Dirt. Destruction. And Glasses?

What’s better than National Vision and Boys and Girls Club of America teaming up to give kids a free eye exam and a pair of glasses? Answer: all of that plus a bunch of Monster Trucks. In our latest promotional video for National Vision, we traveled to Anaheim, CA to capture the excitement of this awesome initiative in action. Our team had almost as much fun as the kids, especially our DP, Brandon Peterson. He loves trucks, y'all. If seeing is believing, then this promotional video is proof of the good work that National Vision does all across the country.

Project Story

Explore how National Vision’s Monster Jam video blends brand storytelling with cause marketing. Learn practical strategy and production insights to guide your next impactful

Help readers decide how to shape video strategy and production to connect brand purpose with audience impact.

Connecting Brand Purpose to Audience Through Video

When National Vision teamed with the Boys and Girls Club of America to offer free eye exams and glasses, they didn’t just want to tell a story — they wanted to make an impact. Adding Monster Jam’s high-energy monster trucks brought excitement that captured attention and emotion. This video isn’t just a promo; it’s a strategic blend of brand purpose and audience engagement. For your project, start by clarifying who needs to care, what they already know, and what the video must prove. This clarity shapes every production decision from concept through delivery.

Turning Creative Ideas into a Practical Production Plan

A great video idea becomes powerful only when it’s connected to a real viewer, a clear deliverable, and a defined deadline. For National Vision | Monster Jam, that meant knowing the video’s platforms, approval process, and success criteria before the first shoot day. Your production plan should map out these elements early: target audience, story beats, pacing, visual style, and call-to-action. This approach ensures the finished piece isn’t just completed but feels successful and on-brand.

Navigating Strategy, Production, and Post-Production with Confidence

Knowing when to engage strategy, pre-production, production, or post-production services can save time and budget. ECG’s role is to help you identify which phase needs focus next — whether that’s refining the story, planning shoots, directing production, or polishing the final edit with color and sound design. For example, National Vision’s video required dynamic visuals and clear messaging, demanding close collaboration between the DP, editors, and brand stakeholders to maintain energy and clarity.

Using References to Sharpen Your Video Brief

Bringing references to your first production conversation accelerates alignment. Point out pacing, tone, interview style, animation, or sound design you admire — and equally important, what feels off. This contrast helps production partners like ECG understand your goals faster and tailor their approach. For National Vision | Monster Jam, highlighting the balance between high-energy monster truck scenes and heartfelt moments with kids helped define the final cut’s rhythm and emotional impact.

Preparing for Your First Call: Essential Details to Bring

Before your initial call with a production partner, gather key information: your video’s goal, audience, deadline, existing assets, brand guidelines, must-have deliverables, and approval workflow. This preparation enables a focused conversation and a tailored production plan. ECG can then recommend the right services, show relevant portfolio examples, and outline a realistic timeline and budget — all without guesswork.
