Project Write-Up

SCUF Gaming | Infinity1 Animation

Creativity and video games go hand in hand. At ECG we’ve got an extensive collection of classic consoles, in addition to our custom cocktail arcade cabinet (over 2000 games!), for those days when we have a spare 5 minutes for a quick “Street Fighter” match. It’s no wonder we were so excited to work on this E3 promo for the SCUF Infinity controller. Intended to be deployed via Instagram and Vine, we needed to make sure the final product looked great in a square format, while also being loopable and (in the case of Vine) only 6 seconds in length. SCUF Infinity 1 Instagram video from ECG Productions on Vimeo. Working with products that haven’t been released yet is pretty exciting. We got SCUF Infinity prototypes for both XBox One & PS4 to create our models and animations from. It’s fascinating to see how a product release comes together and how the features and specs can change along the way. As we were animating, SCUF was still hard at work improving the Infinity. This is just another reason why it’s so vitally important to have great communication with the client. Thanks to the hard work and skill of our ECG animation team, we were able to get this project turned around in a very short time frame. Using Autodesk Maya, Adobe After Effects and a myriad of plug-ins, we were able to create a dynamic animation that rapidly showcases the best features of the controller while staying within the constraints of the social media platforms. Plus, we got a great excuse to play even more video games around the office! Client: SCUF Gaming | Profile: Animation

Project Story

Discover how to plan and produce a high-impact animation for gaming products like SCUF Infinity1. Learn strategic video marketing, production tips, and delivery for social media

Help marketing and production teams decide how to strategically plan and execute animated video content that clearly communicates gaming product features and engages target audiences.

Why Strategic Video Planning Matters for Gaming Products

When you’re launching a gaming product like the SCUF Infinity1 controller, your video content must do more than just look good — it has to earn attention fast. Gaming audiences are savvy and flooded with content, so your animation or promo video needs to connect the product’s key features with the right audience, on the right platforms, and with a clear call to action. This means starting with a solid strategy that defines who the video is for, what it must communicate, and where it will live before any production begins.

Pre-Production: Defining Audience, Message, and Deliverables

Before animating or shooting a single frame, clarify the target audience’s needs and expectations. For SCUF Infinity1, this meant understanding the gaming community’s familiarity with controllers, what features would excite them, and how the video would be consumed — primarily on Instagram and Vine with strict format and time limits. Planning multiple versions upfront — square crops, loopable clips, cutdowns, captions, and thumbnails — ensures the final assets fit all distribution channels without costly last-minute edits.

Production: Tools and Techniques for Dynamic Gaming Animations

Producing a high-quality animation for a gaming controller requires the right tools and workflows. At ECG, we used Autodesk Maya for 3D modeling and animation, combined with Adobe After Effects for compositing and motion graphics polish. This setup allowed us to rapidly showcase the SCUF Infinity1’s features with dynamic camera moves and clean visual storytelling, all while respecting social platform constraints like Vine’s 6-second loop. Close collaboration with SCUF’s product team was essential to keep the animation aligned with evolving prototype designs.

Post-Production and Delivery: Optimizing for Social Platforms

Post-production is where the animation gains final polish — color grading, sound design, and pacing adjustments ensure the video grabs attention and communicates clearly in seconds. For social media, optimizing file sizes and formats is critical for smooth playback and engagement. We prepared multiple exports tailored to Instagram’s square format and Vine’s loop requirements, ensuring consistent brand presence across channels. Early approvals and feedback loops with the client kept the project on track and aligned with marketing goals.

Making Your Gaming Video Campaign Successful

A successful gaming video campaign balances creative storytelling with strategic production planning. Define your audience and message early, plan for multiple deliverables, use the right animation tools, and optimize your final videos for each platform’s unique needs. At ECG, we connect these dots — from branded content strategy to production and delivery — helping you create videos that don’t just finish, but perform. FAQ

How do I ensure my gaming product video works on multiple social media platforms?

Plan your video versions before production, considering each platform’s format, length, and audience behavior. For example, Instagram favors square videos with captions, while Vine (now defunct but similar platforms apply) required ultra-short, loopable clips. Creating adaptable edits and crops upfront saves time and ensures consistent messaging.

What animation tools are best for showcasing gaming hardware features?

A combination of 3D modeling and animation software like Autodesk Maya paired with compositing tools like Adobe After Effects provides flexibility and polish. This workflow lets you create dynamic visuals that highlight product details while allowing quick adjustments during production.

Why is client communication critical when animating unreleased gaming products?

Gaming products often evolve during production, with features or specs changing. Maintaining close communication ensures your animation reflects the latest design and messaging, preventing costly rework and keeping the project aligned with marketing goals.
