Getting to Know the Georgia Forestry Commission

At ECG Productions, there’s not much we love more than making great video content. However, the great outdoors—and more specifically the forests of our home state of Georgia—have a soft spot in our hearts. So, producing an animated explainer video for the Georgia Forestry Commission was both an honor and an excitement. This video brings to life the main 8 challenges that face Georgia forests today.

Our amazing 2D artist used Adobe Illustrator to create the environments and riggable characters. From there, we crafted the final animation in After Effects and final sound design in Pro Tools. And the results? One super cute and super-informative video that’ll get you out of the woods on this hot-button topic!

Turning Complex Forestry Challenges into Clear Animated Stories

When the Georgia Forestry Commission needed to communicate eight critical challenges facing Georgia’s forests, animation was the perfect tool to simplify complexity and engage diverse audiences. At ECG Productions, we transformed detailed environmental data into a visually compelling narrative using 2D animation. The key production truth: animation lets you visualize abstract or layered information in ways live action often can’t, making it easier for viewers to understand and retain the message.

From Concept to Completion: The Production Journey

Our process began with strategy and pre-production—defining the audience, key messages, and the video’s purpose. We crafted a production brief that connected the creative idea to real-world deliverables, deadlines, and approval workflows. Adobe Illustrator was used to design environments and riggable characters, which we animated in After Effects to ensure smooth, engaging motion. Final sound design in Pro Tools added polish and clarity. This stepwise approach ensures every phase—from storyboarding to post-production—supports the video’s goals and brand standards.

Practical Questions to Guide Your Animation Project

Before production, ask: Who needs to care about this video? What do they already know? What must the video prove or explain? Where will it be viewed—online, in presentations, or at events? Who will approve the final piece, and what criteria define success beyond just completion? Answering these helps shape pacing, tone, visual style, and the call to action, ensuring the animation resonates with its intended audience.
