Atlanta, GA, – ECG had the pleasure of working alongside the Environmental Protection Agency in November of 2022 to produce a captivating and passionate recruitment commercial. Carter Williamson, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, and Laura Williamson, Management and Program Analyst, reached out to ECG in order to produce a commercial that they’d written over 10 years ago in an effort to inform people of all the intricacies that go into work with the EPA. ECG jumped at the opportunity to bring their vision to life and draw in younger generations to serve the EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment.

"EPA came to us concerned with the fact that their numbers were dwindling and they wanted to inspire the younger generations for recruitment. The man in charge of this script was so passionate about it that it really inspired the tone of the video."

When ECG was awarded this project, the entire team was over the moon about the opportunity.

“I was the person who initially contacted Carter, who is one of the lead folks over at the EPA. He had initially reached out and then we kept following up, and following up, and not thinking it was real. Eventually we started having conversations and it became very real really quick. It was one of those projects that comes across your desk that you know that it’s big and it has such a cool message that I emphatically wanted it. It was a nice refreshing project in the sense that any large project like this you’re competing against a lot of people. And you win some, you lose some, and I wanted this one. So it was really great to get the opportunity to work on the job,”

This production was a true passion project for all.

From the script to the shoot the ECG team locked in and were ready to put just as much care into their work as the EPA team had into the writing. To put that much heart into a project meant traveling, partnering with other government agencies such as the Coast Guard, and building a large living room set in ECG’s Atlanta Studio.

When ECG was awarded this project, the entire team was over the moon about the opportunity.

“It was exciting to know we had the time and the resources to do it right. It was a challenge because there was a high degree of complexity and we knew we had to get things done in pretty tight days. But it was also exciting because I knew, particularly for our studio day, that we were going to have the opportunity to really dial it in and make it as great as we wanted it to be. Anytime you have a new project you're going to learn something. I think we did a really good job about being nimble and adjusting to any conditions thrown at us,”

“One other thing that’s worth noting, we worked with the EPA, but we also worked with their main contractor, TetraTech, specifically Will Collins and Andy Johnson. They were also super supportive and super responsive throughout the project, so they were really great collaborators on this. They helped us pull a lot of the resources that we wouldn’t have had otherwise. That was really great, it was like a full team effort,”

All in all, the crew took on this large ask and pulled out all of the stops to bring the EPA’s vision to life. The ECG team proved that the sky was the limit as they loaded up themselves and their gear into helicopters to capture the perfect hero shot.

"There was another aspect to the shoot. The main actress had a counterpart, the little girl. We built a set, a mock living room loosely based on my childhood living room. The little girl watches all these terrible environmental disasters on the television as the camera orbits around her, ultimately making a 360 orbit landing on her determined face. Then the trick was matching the cut to our grown up actress in a helicopter. Scouts honor, we only faked one helicopter shot, bet you can't tell which one,”

“I know we learned so much about them through this process, that I hope the video not only inspires people to help the environment and get involved on a career level, but that even someone who isn’t necessarily going to run out and join the EPA still wants to gain a better appreciation for what they’re actually about,”
