Project Write-Up

HeatTrak | Drama Spot 60

A heartwarming commercial for HeatTrak’s patented snow-melting mats. While our comedic campaign focused on ridiculous (and fictional) ways to use HeatTrak, this spot illustrates for the viewer how HeatTrak mats can improve lives. Talented cast memebers John Schemedes, Samuel Goergen, and Terese Young brought an amazing mix of emotion and authenticity to the original script written in house by ECG’s writing team. While principal photography took place in Georgia during the summer months, we were able to use a mixture of compositing and fake snow to get the look we needed without having to wait for winter. Project Story

Discover how HeatTrak's Drama Spot 60 balances emotion, strategy, and production to create a compelling marketing video that resonates and drives action.

Help marketing and production teams decide how to align video strategy, creative, and delivery for brand storytelling that truly connects.

Why Video Strategy Matters Before Production

HeatTrak | Drama Spot 60 shows that a successful marketing video isn’t just about a polished final file—it’s about earning the viewer’s attention from the first frame. Before any camera rolls, you need to clarify who the video must reach, what it needs to prove, and where it will live. This strategic foundation shapes every production choice, from casting and script tone to visual style and pacing. Without it, even the most beautifully shot video risks falling flat because it doesn’t connect with its audience or support your brand goals.

Planning Versions: More Than Just the Hero Spot

Modern campaigns demand multiple video versions tailored for different platforms and purposes. HeatTrak’s campaign included a 60-second drama spot, but also needed shorter cutdowns, vertical crops for social, captioned versions for silent autoplay, and assets for sales follow-up emails. Planning these versions during pre-production ensures the shoot captures all necessary coverage and that post-production workflows are efficient. This approach saves time and money while maximizing your video’s reach and impact.

Production Challenges and Creative Solutions

Shooting a winter commercial in Georgia’s summer heat required creative problem-solving. For HeatTrak, ECG combined compositing techniques and artificial snow to simulate winter conditions without waiting for the season. This kind of production flexibility is crucial when schedules or budgets don’t align with ideal natural conditions. Collaborating closely with your production partner to anticipate and solve such challenges keeps your project on track and visually authentic.

Aligning Creative, Post, and Delivery for Maximum Impact

HeatTrak’s spot benefited from seamless collaboration between creative development, production, and post-production. ECG’s in-house writing team crafted a script that balanced emotion and authenticity, while post handled color grading, sound design, and multiple deliverable formats. Early decisions about distribution channels and approval workflows ensured the final video was ready for broadcast, social, and sales use without last-minute rework. This integrated approach is key to delivering professional, on-brand content that drives results.

Questions to Answer Before Your Next Video Shoot

Before greenlighting production, clarify these practical questions: Who exactly needs to care about this video? What do they already know or believe? What proof or emotional tone will convince them? Where will the video be watched—TV, social, website? Who will approve the final cut, and what defines success beyond just finishing the edit? Answering these upfront lets your production partner tailor the strategy, creative, and technical approach to your unique goals.
