Compare the job, not just the look
Trailer examples are most useful when you compare audience, message, pacing, polish, format, and where the finished piece had to live. The closest-looking sample is not always the closest production plan.

How To Compare
Trailers, sizzle reels, teasers, and promotional edits. The goal is to help a buyer turn finished ECG work into clearer questions about audience, deliverables, scope, timeline, and proof.
Trailer examples are most useful when you compare audience, message, pacing, polish, format, and where the finished piece had to live. The closest-looking sample is not always the closest production plan.
Locations, talent, interview needs, animation, edit versions, review rounds, rights, captions, sound, color, and delivery channels can all change the shape of the work. Those details matter before ECG recommends a path.
Use these 12 references to point out what feels right, what feels wrong, and what your own audience needs to believe or do next. That gives the first call more signal than a generic style request.

Search Notes
Reddit documentary threads around Trailer usually ask where to start, how to shape a real story, what gear matters, how to handle interviews, and how much planning is needed before filming.
Explore documentary productionStart with the central question, access, characters, stakes, audience, and why the story matters now. Gear comes after you know what you are trying to discover.
Plan for story, not just answers. Use good audio, intentional lighting, thoughtful prompts, enough time, and follow-up questions that reveal choices, conflict, memory, and consequence.
Enough to tell the story, but not so much that the edit becomes archaeology. A documentary needs coverage, verite moments, archive, and structure, not endless unfocused footage.
Look for story judgment, interview skill, field production discipline, archive handling, edit taste, sound and color finishing, and the ability to protect the subject while still making a watchable film.
